Senior Sensory Scientist
Purpose and Scope/General Summary: We are looking for a Senior Sensory Scientist to join our Pilgrim’s Sensory Team! As a Senior Sensory Scientist, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving product excellence and innovation. You’ll bring sensory expertise to the forefront, shaping the way our products are developed, evaluated, and enjoyed by customers around the world. This role is your chance to influence the future of our iconic brands while collaborating with passionate food industry professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Sensory Innovation: Execute and enhance sensory research methodologies in support of evolving new product development efforts, working closely with R&D.
- Drive Product Excellence: Validate cost-savings initiatives and quality improvements to exceed customer expectations.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work with Marketing, QA, Operations, R&D, Culinary, Regulatory, and Sales to align sensory insights with business objectives, following the stage gate process.
- Analyze and Report: Use statistical tools to interpret descriptive and consumer data, translating findings into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.
- Engage with Customers: Interact directly with key customers, offering expert recommendations to meet their unique objectives and KPIs.
- Train and Inspire: Deliver sensory training sessions to internal teams and customers, fostering a deeper understanding of sensory science and building a food-forward culture.
- Learn and Grow: Manage and mentor up to one team member, with opportunities to expand your leadership as the company grows.
- Innovate with Tools: Help maintain sensory databases and questionnaires in Compusense while exploring new technologies for enhanced testing.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- A BS in Food Science, Animal Science or related field is required.
- 5-7 years of experience in a professional, sensory setting strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills including proficiency in statistical software (e.g. R, XLSTAT, Prism).
- Experience with Compusenseor similar sensory software.
- Passion for food and sensory science, with a willingness to taste and prepare all types of meat.
- Exceptional communication skills to translate technical data into impactful insights.
- Experience in customer-facing role of consulting (a plus!).
- Knowledge of project management systems like SAP or Accolate (a plus!).
- A proactive, adaptable mindset for working in a fast-paced environment.

- As a salaried position with the company, you may be required to travel at some point to other facilities, to attend Company events, or as a representative of the Company in other situations. The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:
- Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;
- Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays;
- 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;
- Base salary range of $75,000-$85,500;
- Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program; and
